Studio Portaluppi
Milan
2026
FTA has restored Piero Portaluppi’s former studio, the principal reception space of the celebrated Rationalist building he designed in the 1930s on Via Morozzo della Rocca, in the heart of Milan. Rejecting both the strict philology of conservation-led restoration and the formal exhibitionism of signature architecture, the project instead embraces a pragmatic and adaptable approach, reinterpreting the historic fabric through a careful balance between preserving its original finishes and spatial qualities on the one hand, and responding to contemporary needs on the other. Two principles guided FTA’s intervention: dissolving the boundary between inside and outside, and the playful reinterpretation of tradition.
